HOPE Technik boosts urban fire-fighting capabilities with newest Red Rhino unveiled at Home Team Festival 2015
It was a proud moment for HOPE Technik as the fifth generation Red Rhino, or LF5G, was recently unveiled by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) at the Home Team Festival 2015. A boost from the last Red Rhino, LF5G is the latest SCDF Light Fire Attack Vehicle (LFAV) that is fully designed and built by HOPE Technik for Singapore’s urban space.
The LF5G, which is designed to accommodate for a fifth emergency medical technician on top of the four firefighters, is a response to increasing demands placed on SCDF for emergency medical assistance. The vehicle includes a new compartment to store medical rescue equipment, enabling the crew to administer medical treatment. It also boasts of a vastly enhanced ergonomic design that allows for easy egress.
“We are highly dedicated to understanding the operations of SCDF in Singapore’s urban environment to ensure that the LF5G is highly maneuverable and tailored to the needs of SCDF,” said Vinoth Pannirsilvam, Chief Engineer of the LF5G.
Standing at about 2 metres high by 2 metres wide and 5.5 metres long, the LF5G is based on the Isuzu D-Max chassis with a Euro 5 2.5 litres twin turbo diesel engine. The vehicle features HOPE Technik’s proprietary software 1-button push technology which allows the user to switch between driving and pumping mode seamlessly.
Considerable efforts were also made to ensure effective use of space and accessibility to all equipment. Foam tanks embedded in the front fenders help to maximise available space on the vehicle while achieving a more balanced weight distribution. Fire pump components are packed more efficiently than before, leading to easier serviceability and more cabin space. The improved rear compartment allows two Compressed Air Foam System backpacks to be stored and retrieved effortlessly.
In spite of all the heavy equipment loaded into the LF5G, engineers at HOPE Technik still managed to recreate the sleek and aerodynamic look envisioned by the company’s in-house designer with the customised fiberglass body. The lowered bonnet line contributes to better forward visibility while repackaging of the vehicle provides a narrower body width compared to the previous Red Rhino.
The fifth generation Red Rhino is HOPE Technik’s fourth LFAV commissioned by the SCDF and holds pride of place as the company’s flagship fire-fighting vehicle. HOPE Technik conceptualised its first LFAV in 2009.
