Two killed in Mumbai flat fire

A fire in the well-to-do suburb of Cuffe Parade killed two domestic helpers, on Tuesday 18th. The fire gutted the apartment on the 20th floor. The fire started in the early hours and was reported at 06:30hrs, the cause is still being investigated but officials are investigating an air conditioning system used in the apartment that covers two levels in the complex.

All eleven members of the family living in the flat, including an infant, were moved to safety soon after the fire was noticed. Seven people from the lower flats and seven others from neighboring flats on the same floor were helped to safety.

Eight fire pumps and six water tankers along with fire-fighting equipment were deployed to fight the blaze which was brought under control within an hour. The firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, used one small hose line, one monitor jet and two lines of risers to battle the blaze.
