Vanuatu gets two fire trucks donated by the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Fire Service
The Capital of Vanuatu, Port Villa is about to receive two trucks donated by the ACT fire service, one a pumper and the other a tanker.
ACT will also train the Port Villa fire fighters on the effective use of these trucks. Recently the town has been protected by a small slip-on truck and appliances from the 1980s, (pumper and tanker) which continually required high levels of maintenance to keep them on the road. The arrival of these trucks was very timely, in that the cost to keep the old trucks going was exorbitant and in some cases parts could not be found on the island.
The Australian Fire services each adopt a Pacific Island fire service to mentor and where possible provide assistance in training and equipment.
