Smoke Alarm Enables Family to Escape Serious House Fire in Western Sydney

A mother and five children had a lucky escape from their St Clair, Western Sydney home after a fire broke out in the family home. The alarm was raised by a smoke alarm in the home at around 6 pm last Friday.

At the time of the fire Mum, Sharon McKeown was doing the laundry at her home last Friday. Sharon told how she turned to see thick black smoke when the smoke alarm had sounded. She expressed how fortunate she was to have had working smoke alarms.

Ms McKeown took swift action to quickly awaken and escort and carry her five children, the youngest a four-month-old out of their home.

The fire was so intense that when Firefighters arrived they were only able to contain the fire.

New South Wales Fire and Rescue investigation into the cause is ongoing at this time, but officers believe it could’ve been an accident.

The St Clair community has come together to offer help and replacement items for the family.
