Australian ABC news reports, firefighters have rescued a miniature donkey, who became trapped after falling into a septic tank, north of Brisbane. Crews were called to a septic sewerage pit in the suburb of Morayfield only to find a miniature donkey had fallen into the pit and could not be freed by locals.
Fire crews had to pump out the pit before a harness could be attached to a winch on a tripod to lift him out. The donkey stayed calm during the incident and fed on carrots.
“We’ve had some different calls over the years, but this is sort of more unusual than what we get up here,” Caboolture fire station’s Scott Marles said.
The five-year-old donkey, called Talou, was in good spirits when rescued, other than being a bit cold and very smelly, he still had a full appetite
Firefighters said, “Luckily he was a miniature donkey which made the job a little easier I suppose. A full-size donkey would have been a bit harder with the lifting. We left the job of cleaning the donkey to the owners.”
