Fire Protection Association Australia (FPA Australia) is pleased to announce a collaboration with Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) on a new state-of-the-art training centre for the fire protection industry in Sydney, opening its doors in the second half of 2019.
The New South Wales (NSW) Training Centre will be the first educational facility for FPA Australia’s Fire Protection Industry Training Academy (the Academy), the new name for the Association’s expanding training arm.
The Academy’s NSW Training Centre will be sited on the grounds of the Fire and Rescue NSW Emergency Services Academy in Orchard Hills in western Sydney, as set down in an agreement signed by the two organisations in January. The Emergency Services Academy opened in late 2018, and is the largest fire and emergency services training facility in Australia, covering seven hectares. The two Academies will share training capabilities and equipment.
Making world-class, live fire training available to the fire protection industry is one of FPA Australia’s guiding strategic directions, contributing to our commitment to keeping the community safe through effective fire protection. This new Academy represents a significant expansion on the Association’s ability to do that.
We are very proud to be working with FRNSW on the new training facility, and to be in a position to share knowledge and skills between the fire protection industry and the emergency services. The end result will be a safer community.
Through the new facility, FPA Australia and FRNSW will deliver world-class training in all aspects of fire protection. When completed, the centre will be one of the most advanced facilities dedicated to fire protection training in the world.
It features custom-built training and assessment rooms dedicated to different aspects of fire protection. It also includes shared access with FRNSW Emergency Services Academy facilities, giving the centre comprehensive, hands-on training capacity spanning from design and installation through to routine service and annual assessment. It will also include access to a live fire training facility, providing students with real-world fire protection experience.
The Academy’s NSW Training Centre will cover all sectors of the industry, including passive fire protection, detection and alarms, water-based and gaseous suppression, special hazards and more.
