afac18 powered by INTERSHUTZ Conference Review

Back in Western Australia for the first time in six years, AFAC18 powered by INTERSCHUTZ was held from 5 – 8 September at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The theme for this year’s conference was ‘changing lives in a changing world’ and 2,831 attendees from 25 countries participated in the multi-streamed conference and exhibition.

The conference content was presented through the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC Research Forum, the two day AFAC Conference and for the first time, the Australian Disaster Resilience Conference.

Further presentations took place on the Expo Stage, which was just one of the features of the INTERSCHUTZ exhibition. The exhibition showcased the latest emergency management products from 170 exhibiting organisations. The live demonstration area proved to be a big hit with attendees and included an explosion-proof firefighting robot, demolition robot, road crash rescue simulation and more.

The ever popular AFAC Gala Dinner attracted over 1,000 attendees and we would like to thank Firefighters Mutual Bank for sponsoring the dinner and helping raise over $4,000 for the Fiona Wood Foundation.

The Professional Development Program consisted of workshops and field trips aimed at giving attendees practical insights to take back to their agencies.

We would like to thank our host agencies, sponsors and exhibitors, speakers, delegates and visitors for making this year’s conference and exhibition one to remember.
