Calls were received by emergency services in Mumbai on Saturday at around 4 am to a large fire in the unoccupied office building.
The fire broke out in the Kothari building which is also known as the Light Of Asia.
The fire spread rapidly and resulted in a partial collapse during the firefighting operation.
Two Firefighters sustained minor injuries during operations. They were using a ladder at the time and were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. It is reported that a tactical move away from the main fire ensured the outcome was not more serious, two fire vehicles were damaged by the collapse.
Eighteen fire appliances and crews were sent to the incident in the building that has been vacant for four years.
As a result of the Firefighting efforts, the blaze was contained around three hours after the initial call.
It is understood that the remainder of the building will now be demolished.
