Formed in 1989, the company has grown steadily to now produce over 230 vehicles a year from our 10,500m2 manufacturing base (8-acre campus) in Cumnock, Scotland.
Our clients face the daily challenge of responding to a range of incidents in often difficult and hostile environments. They need to know that the vehicles and equipment they use will work first time – every time! They also need to know that they are able to utilise the latest available technologies to help to keep them safe and to protect the public. We are proud to count as our some of our clients:
- London Fire Brigade
- Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service
- Scottish Fire and Rescue Service
- All-Wales Fire and Rescue Services
- Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service
… amongst many others.
We adapt a flexible and collaborative approach with all of our clients… we work with them not just for them. This flexibility means that we can build “one off” specialist appliances alongside large scale production runs. With our partner company, Clan Tools & Plant Ltd., we can also provide a very wide range of operational equipment and safety systems that can be fitted at the time of appliance build to provide the most efficient stowage and effective use.
Capability
Our highly skilled workforce of over 200 people are all fully trained and qualified in all the disciplines required to provide our clients with the assurance that we are truly a one stop shop for design, build and maintenance of vehicles and equipment. As well as designers, mechanical and electrical engineers, we also employ people with extensive Fire and Rescue operational experience – ensuring that our systems match your requirements. All of our teams are subject to ongoing training and development to maintain and improve the skill base of the company. Our apprenticeship scheme is regarded as industry leading. Truly, our people are our key asset and we treat them as such.
Capacity
Incremental growth has been key to our success. We have ensured that our production techniques support our Quality Management Systems throughout this period of growth so that quality of the finished product is never compromised. Our purpose-built manufacturing base is now in excess of 10,500 square metres and there are plans to expand this further as our client base grows. We have invested heavily in our people and our plant and equipment so that we can use the latest manufacturing techniques to produce more vehicles to the same exacting standards.
Quality
Emergency One (UK) Limited is an ISO 9001:2015 company and Quality Management runs through the heart of our design and production process. Materials selection and supply chain management support our quality policies. Recently we have introduced Sustainability Impact and Equality Impact Assessments to ensure that our vehicles and systems have the least possible environmental impact and support the Fire and Rescue Service drive to attract and retain a more diverse workforce.
Innovation
We are continually looking to improve our products and services. Many of the systems on our vehicles are designed by and exclusively for E1 appliances, such as:
- e1Fleet: Advanced telematics system designed specifically for the Fire and Rescue Service
- ePumpControl: Our pioneering digital HMI control system. ePumpControl takes the uncertainty out of pump operation and pressure and flow settings – fully programmable to suit your requirements.
- eCabControl: Our in-cab digital HMI control system. Assists the driver and appliance commander in ensuring crew safety on the move.
- E1Tag: Our innovative on-appliance RFID-based real-time inventory management system notified the crew of any missing operational equipment from the appliance, with data available to view on our eCabControl and/or remotely via e1Fleet.
Our design teams make extensive use of 3D printing technology allowing us to move from design to proof of concept to manufacturing faster and cheaper.
We offer an unrivalled choice or rear body superstructure styles, configurations and materials. Our clients can choose from alloy bodyworks, stainless steel, GRP, or (most commonly) plastic (copolymer polypropylene). All designed exclusively by E1.
