Fire detector manufacturer focusing on bridging the national Engineer shortage

Apollo Fire Detectors, based in Havant for over 35 years, develops and manufactures life-saving fire detection products for the global market. Boasting state-of-the-art laboratories, testing facilities and factory, we export from Havant to over 100 countries and our fire detection products can be seen around the world protecting the likes of the Statue of Liberty, The Shard and Tower Bridge. We aim to attract male and female engineering talent from throughout the region who are passionate about their work, enjoy solving problems and developing products that could potentially save lives.

It is no secret that throughout the UK there is currently a shortage of qualified and experienced Engineers and when it comes to recruiting Engineers, manufacturers on the south coast can face challenges.

Apollo is looking to invest in new talent to bridge the gap in engineering experience available locally. In addition to young graduates, we welcome experienced Engineers and project managers to apply their knowledge from other industries to the development of fire detection solutions. My degrees are in Electronics and Automotive Engineering and I have found the transition from working with leading edge product development in the automotive and lift industries to modern fire detection systems a natural one.

We also work closely with Portsmouth University, offering placements for Engineering students with the hope that by giving students a first-hand experience of working with our product design team, in our testing facilities and our factory, we can whet their appetite to pursue a career in Engineering and with Apollo.

Technical careers at Apollo can lead to specialisms in specific research and development, engineering fields or, if organisation and planning are more of a strength, then both product and project management opportunities are available. Additionally, Apollo is part of the Halma group of companies. Halma is a FTSE 250 company who owns 50 businesses in more than 20 countries in sectors such as Medical, Environmental & Analysis and Infrastructure safety, so starting with Apollo doesn’t mean a career in engineering has to be limited to the fire Industry. Future career development can involve placement in, or transfer to, other Apollo or Halma companies internationally.
