The University of the South Pacific in the Fiji capital of Suva suffered a serious fire within the Laucala campus communications centre.
Responding Firefighters were committed to tackle the blaze but such was the intensity that much of the three-storey building suffered significant fire damage.
As well as the communications building, the fire also spread to other departments sharing the Laucala campus facility including the Student Academic Services and Centre for Flexible Learning.
Other parts of the University were evacuated as a precaution during the incident. Lessons within parts not affected have returned to normal.
The National Fire Authority has initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire and temporary arrangements have been put in place to relocate staff and students whose courses have been affected by the fire.
