The UK’s national fire safety organisation, the Fire Protection Association (FPA), is today launching a brand-new monthly podcast analysing the important issues surrounding fire safety in the UK.
The podcast, Assembly Point, will be a place where those shaping fire safety in the UK come to discuss key issues and move the important debate on fire safety forwards. The podcast supports the FPA’s Know Your Building campaign and is aimed at providing audiences – including building owners and managers – with important information relating to their roles in keeping people and property safe from the threat of fire.
Following the devastating circumstances around the Grenfell Tower tragedy, episode one launches with Howard Passey, the FPA’s Principal Consultant and podcast host, talking to ex Labour MP and former Fire Minister, Jim Fitzpatrick. Discussing his previous experience in the London Fire Brigade as well as his time in Parliament, Jim explores the topic of fire policy, how it has evolved and what is required from policy now to ensure buildings and people are protected.
Published monthly, in a 30–40-minute format designed to inform and inspire action, each episode will provide thought-provoking insights on topics including regulation, building design and construction, asset protection and protecting vulnerable building occupants.
Howard Passey, Principal Consultant at the FPA, said: ‘The Grenfell tragedy showed us the horrific consequences fire can have, for those directly affected and for entire communities. As an industry, more must be done to ensure this never happens again, and there must be a focus now on ensuring high-risk buildings are made as safe as possible. By creating a place where industry leaders can come together to discuss important issues occurring within the fire sector, and a destination for those wanting to get expert information and advice, Assembly Point aims to provide actionable insight to help minimise the risk of fire in buildings across the UK and beyond.’
