INSARAG is directed by a Steering Group, which consists of the INSARAG Chairman, INSARAG Regional Group Chairs and Vice-Chairs, the national focal points of INSARAG External Classification (IEC) classified countries, Chairs of any relevant INSARAG ad-hoc working groups and the INSARAG Secretariat. The Steering Group meets annually to determine the strategic direction and policies of INSARAG.
NZ USAR is represented at the INSARAG steering group meeting. National USAR manager Gavin Travers, Davene Vroon Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade and John Titmus MCDEM are attending several meetings, workshops and Market place seminars.
INSARAG is a global network of more than 80 countries and organisations under the United Nations umbrella. INSARAG deals with urban search and rescue (USAR) related issues, aiming to establish minimum international standards for USAR teams and methodology for international coordination in earthquake response based on the INSARAG Guidelines endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly
