Fire breaks out in Singapore refinery, no injuries reported

(June 13th) – Jurong Island, where the Singapore Oil Refining Company is located as well as many other petro/chemical companies, was the scene of a fire which occurred within a crude distillation unit at  1 Merlimau Road. The fire was later detailed on the Singapore Civil Defense Force Facebook page.

The fire which occurred around 0950hrs was extinguished by SCDF and the company in-house emergency response team.

Upon the sounding of the fire alarm, the company’s in-house emergency response team was immediately activated. Water monitors and several large capacity fire extinguishers were deployed to mitigate the fire. SCDF carried out foam operations to ensure there was no reignition.

Investigations are being undertaken to determine the cause of the fire.
