Every large fire starts off small and grows exponentially. Rapid detection and suppression are crucial to successfully fight a fire before it has a chance to develop into a catastrophic, fully developed fire. Traditional methods often result in late detection of a fire which prolongs the period until adequate suppression can begin. Rapid detection, coupled with high-flow suppression is the key to maximising the potential of successfully combating and suppressing fire before it spreads out of control.
Enter the FlameRanger from Unifire. FlameRanger is the first-of-its-kind autonomous robotic suppression system that detects a fire, determines its size and location in three dimensions and directs a high volume of water or foam (up to 5000 litres per minute) using its sophisticated software technology to guide the robotic nozzle directly to the source of the fire (or fires) within seconds of a detecting an event. The water stream dynamically follows the flame as it moves or spreads with the fire location and robotic nozzle position being updated ten times per second and is capable of suppressing up to four separate fires detected simultaneously.
A FlameRanger system that detects a fire can be programmed to activate its neighbouring systems to provide support to the suppression and to provide protection to the surrounding areas all monitored and controlled from one or more central control stations. When a fire is no longer detected, the system automatically shuts off and returns to standby mode with the water supply closing automatically and the robotic nozzle returning back to stow position with the system remaining ready to reactivate should a flame re-ignite.
Full-scale tests of the system have proven the technology to be astonishingly effective and are distributed and supported in Australia and New Zealand by Kidde Australia – ready to be installed on high-risk buildings and in a wide range of other applications, including the protection of oil & gas facilities, waste management facilities, aircraft hangars, tunnels, warehouses, stadiums, factories, and other large-volume spaces.
