Man dies in boat fire at marina in North QLD, Australia

A person died in the early hours of Sunday morning when a boat exploded into flames at a marina on Terrace Place at Nelly Bay, Magnetic Island in North Queensland. Reports of a boat on fire were made about 2.30am and when firefighters arrived, they found the vessel well alight with flames also catching onto a second vessel.

After extinguishing the blaze, a subsequent search by firefighters found a person’s body inside in the boat. Police and emergency services remain at the scene as investigations continue.

The man, allegedly from New Zealand, perished in the ferocious fire that illuminated the marina. A bystander attempted to rescue the man, but was unsuccessful in his attempt.

Police and emergency services are continuing investigations, but no further information has been made available at this time.
