Around 400 people were evacuated from a high-rise apartment complex at Docklands in Melbourne, Australia when fire recently broke out recently in the middle of the night. The blaze quickly spread up the external balconies of the 20-storey building from the third to the 21st floor, causing damage to the building’s exterior. One apartment on each level was fire damaged, while others sustained significant smoke and water damage. Some water damage was caused by the activation of the building’s sprinkler system.
19 fire trucks and 80 firefighters were brought in to contain the blaze.
The building appeared structurally sound after the fire, though the building has not yet been declared safe. Some evacuees were treated for minor injuries.
