The NSW Rural Fire Service used the Wings Over Illawarra Air Show to demonstrate the importance and flexibility of portable, frameless dams, when it comes to aerial firefighting. The dam was up and ready within 15 minutes with the filing taking a little longer due to water supply. The resulting suppression system allowed continuous refilling for aerial attack in areas where open water is limited. This type of dam set up is also excellent in its mobility, as the fire front moves so can the water supply.
The other big benefit is the use of portable dams for holding and mixing fire retardant bring this firefighting tool closer to the fire front for a faster turnaround of aerial appliances.
