Fire crews attending a house fire have allegedly been confronted by a man with an axe preventing them for attacking the fire. The NSW Fire and Rescue crews found a house well alight at 2.00am on Friday morning in Alexander Road on Sydney’s northern beaches.

Firefighters call the police after they started to hose down the burning building but were allegedly confronted by the resident, who ran towards them armed with an axe.

The 56-year-old man was taken to Chatswood Police Station where he was later charged with several offences including being armed with intent, hinder/obstruct member of fire brigade in execution of function and malicious damage.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and a crime scene has been established.
