Vehicles Destroyed by Blaze at Darwin Outer Suburban Area

Gas and fuel tanks exploded during a fire that spread at a storage facility in the Knuckey Lagoon, an outer suburban area of Darwin, in the Australian Northern Territory.

Firefighters faced a rapidly developing fire in searing heat fuelled by the vehicles and their contents. Air support was sent to provide assistance to the ground-based crews already on scene. The combined efforts brought the blaze under control but not before the fire had consumed up to 150 cars and boats. Reports state that firefighting actions saved the residential properties in the area.

Thankfully no injuries were reported as a result of the blaze which affected 11 business units in total.

It is reported that there were backburning operations in progress near to the site of the blaze, although the cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
